Thank you for using Regstones to evidence your copyright. By using our service, you accept the following conditions:
The Regstones service (“service”) is to produce a PDF-formatted certificate (the “evidence document”) that contains your identity and a digital fingerprint of a file of your choice (a song, a partition or similar, max. 50 MB; in the following “file”), to seal it by injecting a digital timestamp token and by applying Long-Term Validation (“LTV”) enabled signature.
The fingerprint generated from your file is called a “hash”. We use the SHA-256 algorithm for the hashing (if you wish to dig deeper, you can read more about it here). The cryptographic hash process is impossible to invert, so nobody can reverse-engineer a file that produces the same hash as your file. This means also that your evidence document will not match with any other file. THEREFORE, IT IS PARAMOUNT THAT YOU KEEP YOUR MUSIC FILE STORED FOR AS LONG AS YOU KEEP THE EVIDENCE DOCUMENT, IDEALLY TOGETHER. ONLY BOTH ELEMENTS COMBINED DELIVER THE VALUE AS COPYRIGHT EVIDENCE.
We source each digital signature, including the timestamp token, from a European Union trust service provider with certified compliance with the eIDAS regulations and ETSI EN 319 421. The accuracy of each provided timestamp is within one second with respect to universal time (UTC).
The applied signatures are LTV-enabled (LTV = “Long-Term Validation”). The document can confirm at any time in the future that the signature and all related certificates were valid at the time of signature.
By using the service, you guarantee that:
You shall be solely liable for using the service outside of these guarantees.
You will receive the evidence document per email, additionally you have the possibility to directly download it upon completion of the sealing process. The document is an Adobe PDF document.
You will need a current release of the regular Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download the latest release free of charge from adobe.com. Limited apps or so-called preview apps are not able to handle advanced signature functionalities.
The Reader will validate all signatures upon opening the document. You need to accept if the Reader suggests an update of the list of trustworthy certificates; without this update the Reader will not be able to handle the digital signatures.
Our YouTube Channel contains a short look into your evidence document and where to find the advanced features.
